Napoli Shkolnik has filed a complaint toward The Mount Sinai Hospital on behalf of a newborn infant, Noah Morton, who died at Mount Sinai hospital during the nurse\u2019s strike in early January 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Summary of Case<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The baby, Noah Morton, had spent his entire short life in the ICU with a heart condition. Despite believing their son was improving and would soon be coming home, Noah\u2019s parents received a call on January 11 that their son had died. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Noah\u2019s parents were told by a staff member at the hospital their son had died during a medical procedure. They received no further information as to his death from Mt. Sinai Hospital other than it was due to \u201cnatural causes.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n However, during the time around Noah\u2019s death, nurses at the hospital, including NICU nurses, were on strike. The basis for this strike, among other things, was staffing shortages and unsafe conditions at the hospital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Noah was left in the understaffed and unprepared Mt. Sinai NICU, where Mt. Sinai had replaced striking nurses with nurses who had little or no NICU experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
