The city\u2019s seeking damages from drug makers and some doctors involved in distribution of the drugs.<\/p>\n<p>The city of Portland (Maine) says in a statement its lawsuit\u2019s in response to \u201cthe substantial impact, including the loss of lives, that the <a href=\"\/fr\/bureau-des-affaires-gouvernementales-avocats-opioides\/\">\u00e9pid\u00e9mie d&#039;opiac\u00e9s<\/a> has had on the Portland community.\u201d The city is being represented by an Auburn law firm as well as Napoli Shkolnik of New York, which is also representing other cities around the country who have brought similar lawsuits.<\/p>\n<p>Officials say there were 57 overdose deaths in the city in 2017.
