Some have called PFAS \u201cthe next asbestos\u201d because of the potential for decades of litigation.<\/p>\n<p>States have used varying strategies to determine their maximum toxicity levels, which would explain why they haven\u2019t reached a consensus maximum contaminant level.<\/p>\n<p>New York is proposing the strictest standards in the country at 10 parts per trillion (a federal advisory warns against levels higher than 70 ppt).
