Cuomo approved a new law Monday to aid responders stricken with 9-11 health-related illnesses.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/nyp.st\/2wkDwy2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cuomo took a break from his annual motorcycle ride to Ground Zero<\/a> on Monday to sign the legislation, which provides line-of-duty sick leave to those with conditions related to their response to the World Trade Center attacks.<\/p>\n<p>The measure, passed by the legislature this year, means those sickened or injured during rescue, recovery or cleanup won\u2019t have to use their regular sick leave to care for their conditions.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThey paid literally with their health to help New Yorkers and the state of New York is going to be there for them 100 percent,\u201d Cuomo said just before signing the bill into law. \u201cOur message is \u2018We will always have your back. Sacrifice is a two-way street.\u2019\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The state will reimburse municipalities and authorities for the cost.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers applauded the move.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the last sixteen years, these brave individuals have faced, and are currently facing, a multitude of health issues that require several doctor visits and time off,\u201d the bill\u2019s sponsors, Democratic Assemblyman Peter Abbate and Republican Senator Martin Golden, both of Brooklyn, said in a memo of support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough we cannot cure them of their illnesses, we must recognize their ultimate sacrifice and try our best to help them during these difficult times,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/nypost.com\/2017\/09\/11\/cuomo-signs-law-that-aids-responders-with-911-illnesses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NY Post<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>SEptember 11th Victim Compensation fund -What is it?<\/h3>\n<p>If you were injured from the aftermath of 9\/11 attack on the World Trade Center, you may be eligible for compensation by filing damage claims. Some common injuries include:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trauma Wounds:<\/strong> Typically, only victims at or near Ground Zero at or near 9:00am on 9\/11 are eligible for Victims Compensation Fund awards for head injuries, broken bones, deaths caused by falling objects, and other such injuries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mental Health Issues:<\/strong> Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is the most commonly-diagnosed illness on a list that also includes adjustment disorder, depression, panic disorder, and even some forms of substance abuse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Musculoskeletal Health:<\/strong> Only 9\/11 emergency responders can obtain WTC VCF awards for lower back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other similar conditions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cancer:<\/strong> There are over fifty types of cancer on the approved conditions list, most notably including any <a href=\"\/article\/rare-cancers-connected-to-exposure-during-9-11-attacks\/\">\u201crare\u201d cancer<\/a> that occurs in fewer than 15 individuals per 100,000 population.
