Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC) is a serious infection that affects the intestines. It is most often seen in premature babies, but can occur in full-term infants as well. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. If not treated quickly, NEC can lead to sepsis, a life-threatening infection of the blood.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s also most commonly found in infants who aren\u2019t breastfed by their mothers, as the formula they are fed is missing key chemicals that support the digestive system and are shown to prevent this bacteria from infecting the digestive tract.<\/span><\/p>\n
